Everything You Need to Know About Our Foundation Classes
Love the idea of Pilates, but find it a bit intimidating to get started? You’re exactly who we created our Foundation classes for.
After hearing from lots of beginners who felt that most introductory classes were still beyond their ability level, we saw a need for a class that was truly for those just dipping their toes into the world of Pilates.
Focussing on basic movements and proper technique, these classes are designed to give you a foundation of Pilates knowledge on which you can build over time. You’ll not only improve your flexibility and mobility, but you’ll also gain confidence to challenge yourself with more difficult movements and ultimately progress to more advanced classes.
Who are the Foundation classes for?
Start with our Foundation classes if you:
– Are trying Pilates for the first time
– Are recovering from an injury
– Are unsure which class would suit you
– Would like additional guidance around your form
We always recommend attending a Foundation class or two for those new to our studio, no matter what level of experience you have. Even our Foundation classes have options to add more intensity to the workout based on the springs used.
How are the Foundation classes developed?
Revolving around the concept of a “foundation” of correct form, our beginner classes have been designed in collaboration with our physiotherapists from Malvern Physiotherapy Clinic. Our team also undergoes regular training, workshops and additional professional development to ensure we’ve always got the most up-to-date approach to exercise and the body, and all of this is relayed through our classes.
What does a typical class look like?
If you’re new to Pilates or to our studio, it’s only natural to be curious about what you can expect from your first class.
We start each Foundation class with a warm up, designed to activate your key muscle groups and prepare your body for the upcoming movements.
Once the class is underway, you’ll work through different parts of the body on the reformer, getting comfortable with a range of positions while learning more about the machine and its role in the class.
Finally, you’ll work through a mindful stretch to conclude the class.
What will I get out of the Foundation classes?
Not only are these classes designed to help you progress your Pilates practice, but they also build a foundation of strength and mobility that will aid in your everyday movement.
You’ll become more confident with the reformers and how to use them safely; become familiar with some common terms and positions; begin to think about your movement differently; and build positive posture habits, too!
